Smother Party Rumors
Monday Oct 31st 2011 - Smother Party site is re-erected. Z has confirmed to revive the band with drummer Justin Vincler. Tedesco was asked to sing and play guitar in place of Z so he could play bass but this was not not agreeable to the consumate bassist now living in LA and playing with world reknown players. She did offer to sing and play bass.
Friday Oct. 26th. S.P. played with Dog Pilot and One World Tribe in efforts to promote peace. A guy named Paul organized the bands. S.O.B. played the drums for this gig (first time back on the drums in 10 years). The first band was very good but played too long a set. One World was good as well and they played a short set to accomidate The Party... thanks guys! This was a cool gig that yet more people did NOT see. Mark Acosta quit the band after the gig. He'll be missed.
Saturday Aug. 31st;
S.O.B. played with punkers Wax Daddy at The Groove to benefit
Surfrider Foundation. The place was packed with pre-pubescence
waiting for the disco band Boogie Nights (I think that was their name).
The Wax Daddies, as they were mistakenly advertised as, played
with punk pride and honor as thousands of blank faces stared into
the disco distance. An occasional heckle would blare out, "you suck!".
S.O.B. smiled and retorted in classic fashion "fuck you!".
The disco band was very good... no, I mean it.
Friday Aug. 30th;
The "Party" was intense at Anna Banana's. S.O.B. burned his
hand on a big candle that was burning out of control- RIGHT
BEFORE THE SHOW! D and S.O.B. both got denied of alcohol
because of I.D.'s. The room was about 1/3rd full and all
present were blessed to a rare treat; a LOUD set of Smother
Party. The place started to fill up toward the end of the
set. Everyone in the band played with a lot of energy. New
member Mark Acosta seemed to be in a catatonic trance like
state while whaling away on guitar while the rest of the
band stomped and bobbed to the psycho tribal influence that
filled the air. Reggae band Roots Natty Roots never showed
up. One World Tribe ended the evening with everyone dancing
happy. This was one K.T.U.H. "Party" you should not have missed.
Wed Aug. 28th 1996;
Smother played live on the air for the
K.T.U.H. "Radiothon" and helped to raise over $100. to
benefit the #1 radio station in Hawaii (a college station).
The band sounded very good.
On May 18 '96, Smother Party landed an obscure gig at the
Pearl Harbor Navy Exchange. Their performance began
at 2:00 in broad daylight. Said members were not even
conscious...S.O.B. wore a "lava lava" (skirt-like
article of clothing) but neglected to put on underpanties.
The wind blew violently throughout the gig, exposing
the more ginger parts of our hero. Men, women, and children
were seen holding one another, pointing, and trying to
blind each other's vision from this hideous sight.
The music was in rare form, and the audience was packed
towards the end of the performance. A Navy Exchange
employee advised S.O.B. that pantyhose would be less
crude. S.O.B replied, with a staunch "I'm not a faggot!".
Performances by Ipso Facto and Racheal followed.
Hey musicians... Smother Party members are looking to jam with others.
S.O.B. is producing 3 or 4 projects which will include INDUSTRIAL,
FUSION and ROCK genres. If you play an instrument and live in Hawaii
(or cyberspace) contact Webelo Management for details.
Hi everybody. It's S.O.B.! I've snuck onto this page in order
to ramble on about, well... ANYTHING. A lot is happening on
this little rock. When I'm not playing with the band or making
music, I organize a thrift/curios shop. I encourage everyone
to sell all their possessions all the time. Circulate stuff...
keep it moving. Take a new streamline perspective on ownership.
Stop buying needlessly new things. Promote and support recycling,
reusing and relinquishing. Help keep spaceship earth and it's
inhabitants abundant with resource. Remember: you don't HAVE to
be a murderer.
